Jen & Sean

2019-01-22T16:17:34+00:00January 22nd, 2019|

We just got these photos in from Sarah Houston Photography from Jen & Sean’s Fall wedding. We just couldn’t wait to share them on our blog! The Fall foliage was at its peak, the leaves had changed colors but were just starting to make their way off the branches to the ground. These two were such a sweet & kind duo. We figured what better way to showcase their wedding photos than by sharing their love story.  Enjoy the story of Jen & Sean as told by themselves, courtesy of their wedding website.

HOW THEY MET

Jen and Sean first crossed paths at Forest Park High School. Sean was a year ahead of Jen, so the two didn’t meet for the first time until after they had both graduated college.

Sometime during the summer of 2013, Sean saw Jen at a local bar when he was with a mutual friend of the couple. Sean knew he had seen Jen before and asked the friend who she was. He was too nervous to approach her that day, so he added her on Facebook later.

Sometime during the summer of 2013, Sean saw Jen at a local bar when he was with a mutual friend of the couple. Sean knew he had seen Jen before and asked the friend who she was. He was too nervous to approach her that day, so he added her on Facebook later.

Over the course of the next 6 months, Sean asked Jen out multiple times, only to be denied over and over again. Thankfully, Sean was persistent and in February, Jen finally gave in and agreed to go to Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar (R.I.P.) with Sean and a few of his friends. After that night, Jen and Sean started spending time together almost everyday, and Sean finally made it official on March 4, 2014.

Jen and Sean quickly realized that they were made for each other, and spent the next three and a half years making memories and taking adventures. The two have enjoyed traveling, trying good food and wine, and countless movie nights. A special tradition of the couple has been to take weekend getaways to spa resorts and visiting local wineries. In March 2017, Jen and Sean purchased their first home in Woodbridge, VA, and started building their life together.

THE PROPOSAL

Since Jen and Sean had moved into their new home, they had been busy settling in and spending weekends out of town, hardly ever having a free weekend. By the weekend of October 13th, Jen was tired and ready for a weekend off – but Jen and Sean had other plans. Jen thought that they were headed to Charlestown, WV to visit the casino for Sean’s step-brother’s birthday with his mom and step family. Jen was very reluctant to go after their busy last few months, but Sean was insistent.

Friday afternoon, they packed up the car and headed to West Virginia. When they got to Charlestown, Waze said “You are arriving at your destination.” in the middle of a random backroad, and Jen started to get confused, so she tried to grab Sean’s phone to put the casino’s address in instead, but Sean wasn’t having it. Finally, they pulled into an inn in the middle of nowhere. After getting checked in and settled into their room, Sean finally told Jen that it was just going to be the two of them that weekend because he felt they could use some time to themselves after going non-stop lately. Jen thought he was just being nice and it was going to be a normal weekend getaway.

That night, they went to dinner at the Inn, where they had an amazing 4 course dinner and drinks. Over dinner, Jen kept mentioning that it was Friday the 13th, making Sean even more nervous to propose that night. After dessert, the waitress let Jen and Sean know that the hotel staff had set up a bonfire for the guests. Jen was very interested (she loves sitting around a good bonfire!) and asked Sean if they could go sit for a while, thinking he’d say “no” (Sean does not share Jen’s love of bonfires), but to her surprise, Sean agreed!

Jen and Sean made their way down to the firepit, and as soon as they rounded the corner, Jen realized that the fire wasn’t for everyone, but just for them. There was a bottle of wine and s’mores supplies waiting, with rose petals covering the firepit area. Jen immediately started crying, but Sean calmed her down enough to finally ask her if she’d be his wife – of course (through tears, again!) Jen said yes! Jen and Sean celebrated with wine and s’mores before calling friends and family to share the good news.

The next day, Sean had planned a private wine tour for more celebrations. On Sunday, they wrapped their weekend up with massages, and finally headed home for an engagement celebration at home with our families.

To say it was the perfect proposal would be an understatement – Sean did the impossible by completely surprising Jen, all the while paying homage to some of the most special moments in their relationship.

Courtney & Ben

We are so excited to share Courtney & Ben’s big day on the blog today! To no one’s surprise, Courtney made an absolutely beautiful bride.  We are just swooning over these photos from Chelsea Schaefer Photography. Chelsea is not only one of Mount Ida Farm’s preferred photographers… but she is also Courtney’s sister! She did an amazing job of capturing the entire day.  Courtney and her bridesmaids got ready that morning in the cottage (right across from the Lodge, how convenient is that?!) Courtney and Ben did their first look right in front of the Lodge, then said their I Do’s inside the Lodge. Being a summer wedding, an indoor ceremony is preferable to keep guests cool and comfortable.  We had beautiful weather that day, so they were still able to get some beautiful photos outdoors. Congratulations Courtney & Ben!

Lindsay & Alan

2018-11-08T18:47:02+00:00November 8th, 2018|

We are especially excited to share the photos from Lindsay & Alan’s wedding day because we absolutely loved the way they embellished their indoor ceremony! They were married on a chilly day at the beginning of April, and because of the cooler temperatures and a mix of rain & snow…they decided to say their I Do’s inside. We absolutely love the ceremony decor that they brought in, we really loved the florals and greenery as it added a nice Springy touch.  We stumbled across their wedding website where we found the story about how they met. Enjoy Lindsay & Alan’s love story, as told by themselves, along with the stunning photos from their big day!

Two Fewer Phish in the Sea

Lindsay started working at SNL Financial in August of 2015 as an Operations Specialist in her department. On her first day of work, Alan helped her with her computer since he worked in IT. They both were attracted to each other but, unbeknownst to Alan, Lindsay was already seeing someone.

Over the next few months, Alan tried interacting with Lindsay; Lindsay would always politely answer, but never very warmly. She thought he was very cute, but she was still seeing someone. Alan tried talking to Lindsay’s team members in hopes of enticing Lindsay to respond. However, after many polite responses, Alan started thinking Lindsay just didn’t like him and never would. Alan gave up on flirting with Lindsay.

About six months passed before anything happened between the pair.

Lindsay was on a business trip in Dallas when disaster struck – her work email was hacked and sent a phishing email to her entire contact list right as the conference ended. Her colleague, Jeanne, called Lindsay to let her know that the problem had been identified and Alan would be reaching out to help. Alan called Lindsay and resolved her issue completely. Monday morning rolled around, Lindsay profusely thanked Alan for all of his assistance…which (of course) opened up the conversation floodgate.

Right around this time, both Lindsay and Alan became single…but not for the reason you might be thinking. It just so happened that they both were in unhappy relationships and had decided to end them. As they spent more time together, Lindsay and Alan realized that they had shared interests. Lindsay and Alan were able to laugh and joke with ease; they watched Firefly together, quoted Metalocalypse, and enjoyed the rides at the Dogwood Festival.

Alan and Lindsay started quietly seeing each other and were promptly found out by some of their colleagues. Some of those colleagues were not the best at keeping secrets (you know who you are, hehe). Eventually, word got out that Lindsay and Alan were dating and “congratulations” and “I’m so happy for you’s” were said.

Call it fate, luck, serendipity, or any derivative of those, the outcome is the same: Lindsay and Alan found each other and can’t wait to be wed.

Alice & James

2018-10-26T18:17:49+00:00October 26th, 2018|

We are over the moon to share Alice & James’ wedding day on the blog today! They were married on August 12, 2017. Alice and her bridesmaids took advantage of our onsite cottage and rented it to use as a bridal suite.  Getting ready in the cottage allowed the ladies to relax and enjoy hanging out together, without having to rush from location to location.

They were blessed with beautiful weather and gorgeous blue skies, so they said their “I do’s” at the Mountain Grove outdoor ceremony location. Afterwards they invited their friends and family to the Lodge where they enjoyed a delicious dinner from The Local. Then they danced the night away to celebrate their happy ever after.

Enjoy these photos from Jack Looney Photography!

Lindsay & Chase

2018-08-06T15:52:33+00:00August 6th, 2018|

We are so excited to feature Lindsay & Chase’s Mount Ida Farm & Vineyard wedding today on the blog! This stunning couple was married at the Lodge at Mount Ida Farm in March of this year.  Since it was March, it was still a little too chilly to have an outdoor ceremony. They said their “I do’s” in the indoor ceremony space, which worked out perfectly! They decided to add in some white drape to soften up the space and to add a personal touch to the room.  They lined the aisle with pink and white flower petals. It was a beautiful sunny day, and the ceremony space was filled with natural light. What we really admire about their wedding was how they incorporated little things that they loved (like Harry Potter) in a subtle and elegant way, without being overbearing. Take a peek at their card table! The reception space was decorated with blushes and creams, it looked truly beautiful. They also added some ceiling drapery as well as a beautiful, lit backdrop for their head table.  Congrats Lindsay & Chase! Enjoy these photos from Meredith Sledge Photography.

We did a little Q&A with Tory Gilliam, who is a Catering + Events Producer with Mosaic.

Tory Gilliam

How did you get into the events industry?

I discovered that I loved events in college, while working in the development and special events office. After college, I worked for another non-profit, where a big part of my job was planning fundraisers and education conferences. So when I moved back to Richmond, I decided to make events my full time job and MOSAIC was the perfect place for me!

Do you have a favorite menu item from Mosaic?

That’s a hard question! MOSAIC has such a fantastic culinary team as well as a twenty-one year history of recipes that have stood the test of time. Our signature Shrimp & Grits are so good and I can never resist them.

What is your favorite part of working a wedding?

I love the moment when I hear clapping after a ceremony. For a caterer, it means “Showtime!” and it’s our turn to wow the bride & groom and their guests.

So your bio says your a former Jeopardy champion?! Tell us the story behind that!

Jeopardy has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I watched it with my grandfather all the time and every night during dinner. So one day my mom decided to sign me up to take the test. After passing the test and auditioning for some judges, they picked me and I taped my episode later that summer. Even sixteen years later, visiting California and getting to spend time in a Hollywood studio remains one of the coolest experiences of my life. Plus, I’m always up for a round of trivia!

What do you like to do in your free time when you aren’t working?

Reading, Traveling, Trying new restaurants to stay up on food trends

Favorite place you’ve ever traveled?

Cuba. It’s the most culturally immersive trip I’ve ever taken. I’m so grateful that I got to experience the wonderful people, delicious food and unique culture.

As a wedding professional, what is your opinion on first looks?

They create some of my favorite photos/videos from weddings. It’s a moment of raw, authentic emotion, especially for grooms and fathers of the bride.

Today we are featuring our very first wedding of 2018! Stephanie and Ryan got married at the Lodge on January 6th, 2018. You probably can’t tell from the photos, but it was a bone-chilling 6 degrees on this day! Temperature aside, it was an absolutely perfect day. Everyone was thankful for our gorgeous indoor ceremony spot inside the Lodge. Guests could still enjoy the beautiful panoramic mountain views while staying warm. The large outdoor fireplace was the perfect backdrop as the two said “I do!” We hope you enjoy these photos from Chelsea Schaefer Photography!

Mountain Grove Wedding Ceremony

2018-03-28T18:02:19+00:00March 28th, 2018|

Those who book their wedding at The Lodge are blessed with the gorgeous Mountain Grove ceremony as their outdoor ceremony option. The Mountain Grove ceremony site offers a spectacular 360 degree view. Up on the ceremony site is a large cedar pergola used to shelter the bridal party from guests’ view until it is time to make the grand entrance down the 100 year old grove. While the stunning tree and mesmerizing mountain views are definitely enough, there are a few options for upgrading the ceremony space.  If you’re a Lodge bride looking on how to personalize the Mountain Grove ceremony site, or just looking for some general wedding inspiration…today’s blog post is for you!
