The Lodge- Mount Ida Farm

For a more elegant feel with still a touch of modern rustic decor, guests may opt for The Lodge.  This 100-year old cattle stable was renovated to the 12,000 square foot building that we now know and love as The Lodge. No shortcuts were taken when building this luxury venue.

Indoor ceremony space at The Lodge

The Lodge comes with two ceremony options, one indoor and one outdoor.  The indoor option has a beautiful backdrop of the outdoor fireplace through the glass doors.  There are windows all throughout the room, so guests still get to enjoy the gorgeous mountain views.

The outdoor ceremony option is Mountain Grove, which gives you a beautiful tree backdrop with a panoramic view of the mountains.  The view is truly breathtaking!

If you wanted a more classic rustic vibe, the Event Barn is for you! This is another cattle barn that was renovated to the 8,500 square wedding venue, complete with a 30-foot high stone fireplace!

Trust us when we say that no detail was missed when Lucie & Nick planned their big day. Everything was designed and planned to a T. We are so thankful that we had Aaron from Aaron Watson Photography to capture their big day.  Aaron always does an amazing job of knowing where the best backdrops and mountain views are, just wait until you see these sunset shots! Lucie & Nick decided bury a bottle of bourbon, a southern superstitious tradition that is supposed to prevent rain on your wedding day.  Lucky for them, it worked! They had the most beautiful weather! Enjoy these photos from their big day, congrats Lucie & Nick!

Amy Moreno Live Event Painting

2018-01-03T17:11:31+00:00January 3rd, 2018|

We had Amy Moreno, a live event painter, at a wedding back in November.  She recently sent us over a photo of the finished product and we knew she just HAD to be our next guest on Meet the Friendors!

How did you get into the live event painting business?
I studied commercial art and illustration in Boston over 30 years ago and have been a children’s illustrator for most of that time. I have created illustrations for clients, as well as pen and ink renderings for Bed and Breakfasts and Inns while staying home raising our three children. As they grew older, I began to miss the energy and excitement of painting from life in oil paint. I began to take classes at The Art League in Alexandria to build my skills in portrait painting and began looking into unique ways to paint live in oil paint, and make it a business. I had heard of live event painting and decided to break into it. I enjoy painting people and interacting with families as they celebrate. It’s a joy to celebrate with people at life events and capture the feeling as it is happening. I also paint as a registered copyist at the National Gallery of Art and am learning a great deal there and am honored and blessed to be there.
What are questions you ask your clients before the event?
I ask them what they are thinking and expecting the look and feeling of the painting to be like, for example is there a specific style they want, would they like it to have extra texture and be more abstract or smooth and more realistic.
What color scheme they may want. When they will need to finished product to be done. (I bring the painting home and use photos I have taken during the event and usually have it finished within one month from the event. Who they would like to have featured in the painting, and what sections of the room or scene. Also if they have an outdoor or corporate event, what part of the scene they would like to have featured in the background. If there is a specific location they would like me to paint from. What specific part of the celebration they would like to have me paint, such as the bride and groom’s first dance, or a ceremony, or a sporting event at the finish line etc. I ask them what style they would like, such as more realistic, or a sort of storybook style, fairytale, or more stylized. I also try to find out what the colors of the bridal party will be if it is a wedding.
If they would like anything added or removed from the actual scene. I usually try to go to the venue a few days ahead of time to take photos and sketch, and try to arrive as early as possible before the event on that day.
Aside from weddings, have you painted at any other types of events?
I have painted a baby shower and an elegant birthday party for a 70 year old woman.
I also painted live at a group setting for entertainers and entrepreneurs in Washington DC.
Aside from painting, do you dabble in any other types of art?
I enjoy knitting and singing.
Getting a painting done at your wedding is very unique.  Why do you think brides and grooms should get it done?
I believe a live event painting captures the feeling of a wedding differently than photography. There is an aspect of emotion, color and energy in a painting that will always be unique and is classic. It is a novel entertainment idea and people from all walks of life are fascinated by it. It doesn’t distract from the main event, but provides an unusual aspect to a celebration.
I think brides and grooms should have their wedding painted live because it allows them to have a unique entertainment provided during the wedding, which many guests appreciate and enjoy, as well as providing them with a piece of custom art from the day they were married. There are details that are captured in the painting that the couple usually appreciate in a deep way. In the painting I recently finished, the bride wanted her custom veil captured in detail, and the bouquet. I was able to do a more close-up view of these two items as a sort of border around the main painting of the couple during their first dance. I can also incorporate specific people into the painting even if they did not show up in the photos. This allows for editing, adding, removing things they would not want shown in a photo. I can also add details such as gold leaf, and texture that would not be possible in a photograph. Also, these paintings can be given as a gift by a loved one or group. It is a very unique aspect for any event.
And our most important questions….what is your favorite flavor for wedding cake?!
Carrot cake, which is what my husband and I had for our wedding cake almost 30 years ago!

With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we wanted to share our favorite wine for the season! No matter what you are celebrating this month…we think you should celebrate with some bubbles!

Introducing our Blanc de Blanc.  Blanc de Blanc is a french term that means “white from whites.” This bright and refreshing Blanc de Blanc has notes of clementine, fresh apricot, white flowers, and honeysuckle.

The Black Tux

2017-12-19T15:20:25+00:00December 1st, 2017|

For brides- picking out your wedding dress is hands down one of the most exciting moments of planning a wedding.  You set up your appointment, assemble your trusted team of bridesmaids and family, and spend a whole day dressing like a princess and feeling like you are in a fairytale.  The day can feel so magical, especially when you finally find the “one” that is perfect for you.

For grooms- a lot of the times picking out their wedding tux for their big day doesn’t come with as much excitement.  While the bride is daydreaming about shades of white, different materials, and various head pieces… the groom typically looks at tux shopping as one more task that needs to get done before the big day.

Lucky for all, our friends over at The Black Tux have come up with an option to make groomswear & groomsmen outfits easier, cheaper, and stress-free.

As a recent bride, I know how important it is to have everything looking perfect for your wedding day. I also know how many things you have going on. You don’t have the time or the energy to spend researching tuxedo rental brands or visiting different rental stores, not to mention finding a time when you and your fiance both can see tuxedo options during normal business hours.

In my experience, helping my husband find tuxes turned out to be a headache. I couldn’t find what I wanted. The tuxes we saw were overused, low quality, out-dated styles and brands. I had to settle for a local shop because I was running out of time and patience. I also was left in the dark about the status of other groomsmen’s orders… how could I be sure who had ordered and who hadn’t? The whole process added unnecessary stress. Not to mention the fact that we paid top dollar for a less than adequate product.

Wasn’t there an easier way to rent a tux? Now, there is.

Today for our Meet The Friendors we wanted to introduce one of our favorite bands, Attraction! We did a little Q&A with band leader, Dave Barton.  Enjoy getting to know a little more about this fun group!

How did Attraction form?

I established Attraction after many years in the music business.  I studied at Berklee College of Music and earned my bachelors in music at VCU. The key to Attraction is that we have top-notch professional music talent all of whom value teamwork and kindness. The whole band are just fun to be around and full of smiles. After many decades in the wedding business, I now know that the right talent combined with expert planning and partnership are the secret ingredients to a seamless, one-of-kind event event.

What sets Attraction aside from other bands?

Outstanding, proven talent is our focus and we have deep bench of experienced, national-level entertainers.  One of our performers was a finalist from NBC’s The Voice.  Another performed on Broadway in HairSpray.  Many of our band members are experienced backup musicians for well-known celebrity performers.  Ultimately, it is the synergy of this talent that delivers consistent, customized performances for every party or event.

Beyond talent, I would say that our other differentiator is our expert event planning and support. We are not just a music vendor, Attraction is partner to our brides, grooms and event coordinators.  An outstanding performance starts when we listen to the needs and wishes of our client and then build a customized, integrated plan to insure a super event.

What is your favorite song to perform?

Hard one as there are SO many! Every event is different so we develop and customize our song list knowing how meaningful each song is to our clients.  When we see that emotional connection with a song, that tune becomes our favorite song.  That said, we love playing Bruno Mars’ song – always fun, funky, and pack the dance floor!

What is the furthest place Attraction has traveled to perform?

Have bags, will travel.  We are on the road every single weekend. But believe it or not in two instances clients have flown our entire band with equipment out of the U.S. We loved our gigs in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Nice, France.   Here at home, we are  based in central Virginia but we travel all over.  We actually have built a  dedicated following in Cincinnati, of all places.   And, of course, we love this new amazing new venue near Scottsville, VA!

What’s your favorite wedding cake flavor?

Ladies and gentlemen please welcome the world-renowned Attraction wedding cake tasters!  Our combined pallet is unparalleled. A quick survey our our band members reveals that our favorite is pastry cream with raspberry. And my personal favorite flavor is carrot cake.

Alright, SOLD! How do our future brides and grooms book you for their wedding?

Contract our great agency or through We will  work closely with the bride, groom  or event planner with in-depth discussions on exactly how Attraction will create the perfect, customized entertainment experience!
